The Pit
The Pit BBQ has been family owned and operated since 1988. When the City of Birmingham featured owner Robert Trice in its #99Voices series, it called The Pit a community staple, a place where his passion for serving customers has grown into a family tradition.
It works out of a little red-brick building at 2820 10th Avenue North, a former Milo's Hamburgers spot. Milo's moved in here in 1963. The meat goes into a brick pit behind the counter, split wood is stacked along the side of the building, and the interstate overpass looms just behind it.
There's no dining room. You order at the drive-thru or walk in, and it's all carry-out.
How it works
Everything is carry-out. There's no dining room, so pull through the drive-thru or come inside to the counter.
Every item has a cash price and a card price, and paying with card costs a little more. Both are listed on the menu here, so there are no surprises at the window.
Breakfast runs 5:30 to 10 AM. At 10 the lunch board takes over (barbecue, burgers, plates and salads) until 2 PM.
Barbecue comes by the pound, and slaw, baked beans and sauce come by the pint, quart or gallon. Call (205) 328-1515 with questions.
